A higher technical diploma research project was discussed at the Administrative Technical College / Mosul, Northern Technical University, by the student Hiba Talal Mahmoud Mohammed. The research was entitled:
“The Feasibility of Adopting Intelligent Transportation Systems to Improve Distribution Quality: An Exploratory Study of the Supply Chains of Selected Organizations / Sardar Auto Company, Vehicle Transportation Department, Headquartered in Erbil with Branches in Baghdad and Basra.”
The research aimed to assess the feasibility of adopting Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS) and to examine their contribution to improving distribution quality within supply chains. Intelligent transportation systems were addressed through the dimensions of technological readiness, organizational and administrative support, human resources and skills, financial resources, and data management. Distribution quality was examined through the dimensions of reliability, responsiveness, order fulfillment accuracy, adherence to delivery schedules, information quality, and flexibility.
The study used a questionnaire as the primary instrument for data collection from a final sample of 66 employees and officials involved in transportation, distribution, logistics, and supply chain activities. The collected data were analyzed using appropriate statistical methods and the SPSS and SmartPLS software packages.
The results indicated a positive level of readiness for adopting intelligent transportation systems. They also demonstrated a strong, statistically significant positive correlation between the feasibility of adopting intelligent transportation systems and distribution quality, with a correlation coefficient of 0.873. In addition, a statistically significant effect was identified, with an effect coefficient of 0.868 and a coefficient of determination of 75.3%.
The research recommended strengthening organizational support, developing employees’ skills, improving data management, establishing a phased financial plan, and gradually expanding the implementation of intelligent transportation technologies while linking them to distribution quality indicators.
