Higher Technical Diploma at Northern Technical University Discusses the Role of ISO 29001 Quality Management Systems in Improving Institutional Performance

A higher technical diploma research project was discussed at the Administrative Technical College / Mosul, Northern Technical University, by the student Alyaa Iyad Kanaan. The research was entitled:

“The Role of ISO 29001 Quality Management Systems in Improving Institutional Performance: An Exploratory Study of the Opinions of a Sample of Employees at Al-Qayyarah Gas Power Plant.”

The research aimed to highlight the vital role of the ISO 29001 Quality Management System in enhancing the institutional performance of Al-Qayyarah Gas Power Plant amid the increasing operational and environmental challenges facing the energy sector. It also sought to demonstrate the importance of implementing international standard requirements in improving power generation efficiency, optimizing resource consumption, and reducing carbon emissions in line with sustainable development goals.

The research adopted a descriptive-analytical approach and used a questionnaire as the primary instrument for data collection. The study sample consisted of 150 employees, including engineers, technicians, and administrative staff working at the power plant. The collected data were statistically analyzed using SPSS 26 and SmartPLS 3 to test the correlation and effect hypotheses among the research variables.

The results revealed a high level of awareness and agreement among employees regarding the importance of implementing the requirements of the international standard. The statistical analysis also demonstrated a positive correlation and a statistically significant effect of the ISO 29001 Quality Management System on the institutional performance of the power plant.

The research recommended adopting ISO 29001 as a strategic foundation for enhancing operational reliability, ensuring production stability, and reducing operational failures. It also emphasized the importance of strengthening top management commitment, providing the necessary technical resources, and involving employees in continuous improvement processes.

The examination committee consisted of:

  • Dr. Shahla Salim Khalil – Chairman.
  • Dr. Wijdan Hassan Hammoudi – Member.
  • Dr. Hiba Mohammed Hussein – Member and Supervisor.
